Pretty snooty comment JM. I bought the car minus the engine. I have 2 running 231's. Just examining the possibilities trying to use what I have. Nobody's twisting your arm to read the thread or add childish comments to it.
Well I have a running 231... and a running spare. Doesnt make sense to me to waste them. The stock 231 would move the H-body around fine as the car will be a worker bee for awhile. Will see if I can bump it up alittle. The car came factory with a 231 in Safari trim, the rest of the drivetrain...
I was looking at FAST efi systems, one gripe I had about the carb V6 is awful mileage in my Cutlass for amount of power. Comparable to my 90 tbi Z71 I love the engine in. Looking back there is a possibility the TCC had issues I will never know now. I like to turn wrenches and modify things to...
Have decided to build the engine NA 1st and possibly continue later with forced induction and upgraded components ... possibly all of them if I choose to go that route. My 1st conversion challenge will be to successful port injection from a carb engine, that will be helpful I believe as I will...
Found a casting number on the block yesterday 2554290. Googling the number shows the blocks with a 25514290 or 25524290 numbers. Maybe the complete number is somewhere I couldnt find. Of those 2 numbers the 14290 shows as a turbo block. Pretty sure mine is a std rwd 1984 block. Heat shields...
That wouldnt be any fun. Rather try and fail using my own head than just copy someone else. At least I learn something. And I dont usually fail. That said my first iteration of the 3.8's return to life will probably be na at the expense of an entire exhaust change should I choose to turbo.
Well my Cutlass is back in the yard minus the 3.8, Paul says the flex-plate appears not to be counter-weighted ... ? My Rock Auto 79 Buick Century 231 flywheel does with 7 drill holes on the backside ?? Oh-boy here we go :) Wonder if I could spin motor fast enough with starter to notice whether...
My little H-body will be a cute little tinker toy. Hopefully I can use it to learn a thing or 2 keeping it running while I do. It had a 215 Buick pulled from it and the body style came factory with an optional carb 231 that is what Im starting with now. I believed and still do it might be a good...
Will see what I have for sure tomorrow or Friday. Any particular point in the head thru hole that is the contact problem area? I have not even seen if there are pushrod guides yet. I see Leveridge shaft braces mentioned earlier are these still available? Will need to find my block and head ID...
Well my motor is pulled from 84 Cutlass ... will deal with flywheel clutch matchup now. Have Rock Auto flywheel hopefully I can get a balance with. I wanted to setup an exhaust asap as Im not tearing into a good running shortblock (much) and the motor will be installed in the H-body also asap...
Thinking of replacing my rocker shafts and rockers and see the appropriate Sealed Power #'s appear to be R-869 right and R-870 left or optional R-947 with centered pushrod cup. Wondering if these are interchangeable and is the only difference a slight "cant" to the pushrod angle when installed...
I dont forget my friends. Anyone who would trying to please someone they've never met on an internet forum isn't much in my book.
Again I will reiterate I am not building a GNX or trying to get every ounce of HP possible out of a 3.8 with cost as no object. I am under time and $ constraints and...
Because In addition to accomplishing something Im trying to learn, not just blindly follow what someone else I've never met says. That way I can become less ignorant of buick turbo engines as well as learn abit about turbocharging. All 3 of my other engine endeavors have custom crankshaft...
Well thanks for the links and the constructive ideas, sorry you feel your time was wasted. While I am no professional engine builder I do have 3 customs on my plate right now I have been working for sometime and so am not completely unfamiliar with what goes on inside them. I joined this site...
