200-4R trans experts, longevity behind a big block?

At that power level I had upgraded to a 300m input shaft, OD planet and ring gear, intermediate shaft, and all of the normal stuff like the deep pan (I used the Art Carr cast pan), wide band, billet servo, etc.... Not all of the hard parts may have been neccessary, but it was more for insurance...

    SFI flywheel shield for 200-4R

Thanks Grumpy. It sounds like the shield you have is for the body of the trans itself. I've had a blanket on the car for years, but what I need to be legal for "nines" is a flywheel/flexplate shield around the bellhousing as well as the blanket/shield around the body of the trans. Is yours...

    SFI flywheel shield for 200-4R

Thanks for the links. I'm thinking that my best bet right now is the shorty CSR shield on a cropped dual pattern case. Still not sure if that possible though. I guess this is what we get for wanting to legally go fast with a unique trans. There has to be someone here on Turbobuick that has...

    SFI flywheel shield for 200-4R

That would seem to be the smartest route, but they won't do one for the 200. I've also been warned against it and I'm thinking it's due to the aluminum front pump. There are some indexing/alignment issues to deal with as well. Otherwise that would have been my first choice.

    SFI flywheel shield for 200-4R

Hey all, I've searched here and in the tech forum and don't see much of anything listed for a flywheel/flexplate shield for the 200. I have had an RCI blanket on the car for years, but we are looking at trying to make the car legal to 8.50 and I want to do things proper (if possible). The...

Boost valve snap ring install question

The last time I had to change the boost valves in the car, I had just come back from an eye doctor appointment. We were going to the track the next morning and I had to get the pan back on the trans from my last minute decision to change things around. The problem was that the doc had dialated...

    aluminum driveshaft and transbrake?

There is a big differenct betwen a 6061 shaft and an MMC/MMX (metal matrix) shaft that some guys run. The 6061 shaft is not near as tough. With a shaft as short as yours ( sorry!) the weight difference between aluminum and chromemoly is far less anyhow. Why take a chance when the...

ok, now Im confused 220 vs 400

Thanks Brian for that added input. The 200 in my GTO is NL with an 8" ATI converter and I think your right about that being a big factor in the life of the tranny. I'm going to spray the thing into the nines and feel alot more confident doing it now.

    Low ET for 2004R???

Hey Jurassic, do you know a gentleman by the name of Mike Crow from Topeka? He has a red '73 Cuda that he races a fair amount. You may have seen him at the local strip. He's a really good guy if you ever get the chance to meet him. B

    Low ET for 2004R???

Maintenance on a trans is no different than anything else. Engines, diffs, trannys, they all need more and more attention if you expect that much out of them. I twisted an output shaft earlier this year and tore it down to change it. All of the internals that I looked at really showed no...
