Which convertor would be best for my combo? Stock long block, new chain and springs, 4431 on alky. Has all the supporting mods ,pump , injectors etc. Car runs smooth 25lbs of boost. I have a restalled d5 in the car now. Works good but not great, some lag from a stand still. Want to stay with a lock up style. 9.5 vigilante single disk 3200 or a 10" ptc 2800. Street car with the odd trip to the track.

i have a ptc in my gn..10in lock up...car goes 7.60s in a 1/8 stock motor all fresh with a comp212 cam and a lil head work alky 61/57 bb turbo with22 psi..i have hyd boost brakes and pull about 5 psi off the line..with sticky tires of course..and my wh1 has a vig 9.5.it has champ heads...all the goodies...havnt run it yet ..but they both are great convertors..they let the motor rev freely and let the turbo build boost quick..so its more like a ? how much you want to spend...honestly and personal preferance..i went ptc because all my friends run them and never had any problems besides they are local to me..i got a good deal on a vig...so i bought it..hope this helps..

The Vigilante is harder to get nailed down and restalled. PTC will work with you better on restalls and repairs. IF you are going over 2800 stall then you need a Non lock up IMO.

I like the 9.5" Vigilante lock up '0' pump and have it in my GN.

It brake stalls right around 3K.

I lock it up in 3rd gear around 80-85 mph at the track but only needed 6 passes to hit the 11's, stock longblock on pump gas and alky.

It's great on the street too.

Tierd of the D5 already I might have a converter for you lets talk :)

I run a 5 disc vig because I too got a good deal on it, but I love it. It makes the 44 sing at all throttle positions and lag is non-existent. The previous owner sold it though b/c he tried 3x to get it restalled higher and it always came back the same. He runs a 76 on his wife's car and a 47-88SP on his car so he needs a little more stall than me. It stalls in my car though at 2700rpm or so, 2800 maybe now that it's been in there a while. I also lock at wot in 3rd and it locks up perfectly every time. I've had some pump mods done in the tranny though besides the shift kit so I know I'm running a lot of pressure, but it works for me. I'd like to compare the efficiency of a vig and ptc l/u but unlocked at say 5000rpm. That's where I shift at and I know my stock D5 was tighter open at 5k than the vig and I wonder if the ptc is any better? You can't always lock the TC on the street...unless you get it built into the chip, but then you may not want it all the time. You'll love the look of your friends faces though when you lock it at 85mph and pull harder to 120mph than you did to 80 initially...ie: it feels real good locked

I have had great luck with my 5 disc Vigilantes. Even unlocked they performed pretty good. Both have near instant spoolup on the steet as well.

look at all the fastest buick in the country, TSO, TSL, TSM, they all run PTC converters. Why spend your time trying other products, when everyone else has spent the time and money trying different things already. Just my opinion.

Adrian

PS i have dealt with Dusty and he is very helpful and listens to what you have for a combo.

I am looking for a converter for a 4l80e. I would like to know if PTC makes a lockup conveter for it

Juan

I bet there's a lot more street stock motored drivers out there with Vigilante single disk lockups than racecars running 10" lockups and winning races.

Sometimes you have to look at what the original poster actually needs and wants to make a decent recommendation.

I wouldn't exactly look at TSO or TSM for a valid comparison.

Both lockups he posted will probably work just fine if he gets the stall close.

It shouldn't be hard with either, the Vigilante stall numbers on Buicks are out there especially for stock longblocks since they've been used for years and years......

The '0' pump will work on that combo.

No really .. If you liked playing with your erector set when you were a kid buy a vigilante.. If you liked to beat up kids who played with an erector set. Buy a ptc...

I had 2 buddies that used the PTC 10" LU and both took them up and went back to their Pro Torques. Both guys have been into these cars for 15 years too. One guy had an 8 second car in the past.

Oil Man What kind of numbers is your car running?
