Potential New GN

This idea must be getting batted around in the headshed right now. This sure would send a message in the performance car market - heck, the whole automotive world - that Buick is back in the game.

I think we'll see it.

It's nice, really really, nice but................I may just keep what I got and get a new camaro in black, all black.

Is is really too much of a stretch to consider a sport version with AWD...?
Something kind of like a 3 series BMW coupe...

Ain't no AWD's even remotely like a 3 Series.... just got done ragging my buddies brandy new 2011 335i coupe, 3-pedal version, up the mountain, and as the saying goes.... the ultimate driving machine...

I was thinking about having my friend test drive one.
Sounds like he should talk to you.

If he's a 'driver's driver', he won't need to talk to me.... the test ride will do it... make sure to tell him to test both versions... the auto/manual and the 3-pedal... the auto is a tick quicker (and neater, with launch control, brutal, lightning fast upshifts and the awesome precision downshift blips).... but my friend opted for the purity of the true manual.... which is what I would do also.... we both drove both...

Brian,

What did your friend pay?
It seems they ask a premium in the SF area...

$57k (i think... that's what he said was he was going to offer, if they were not in the bargaining mood... he drove it home and I didn't ask).... 335is Coupe, Le Mans Blue Metallic, oyster/black interior, premium pkg, convenience pkg, harmon kardon sound, navigation, performance steering wheel.... NON 7spd dual clutch auto, NON active steering... not alot of options... bmw options are EXPENSIVE.... Sticker was $59,300.... Century BMW, Huntsville, AL

fugly is the best word to use to describe the looks- and the Europeans are to blame for that. what with their stupid regulations about protecting pedestrians that should know better than to step in front of a moving car..

fugly is the best word to use to describe the looks-

To each his own... I guess?? How anybody could describe a 3 Series as fugly is beyond me... That is one sweet looking car, and the sedan may even look better?? Ima' chalk it up as envy... I know I'm jealous of my bud's car... 'Course our g-body bricks are the design world's best kept secret.. what with their awesome aerodynamics, interior, plastic, rattles, etc..... You guys kill me....

Looks may be less than tasteful for some of us but least its a 2dr n turboed all grt ideas gotta start somewhere.

i might be reading it wrong, but i think the ugly comments are directed at the buick, not the bmw....

That was my take on the situation too.
However my mother always said "if you don't have anything nice to say..."
Buick is going upscale to fight Lexus, they don't need a retro .40 CD Brick.
They need something that will take customers away from the mid level luxury market.

No "sullen", they're directed to BOTH!...I just hope the next Grand National won't look like that! The roofline reminds me of an Audi TT, a Nissan 350Z or even a Pontiac G6. Anyways, some people might like it, not me. Also "John Wilde" your mom was right when she said "if you don't have anything nice to say..." but I always thought that this was for when you were talking about people, not material things...It's not that I take pleasure in saying bad things, but rather I just wanted to comment on these cars...

Claude.

Looks like I'm outnumbered thinking it would look great...

It is a little "soft" looking, but Buick has Lexus buyers squarely in their sights these days, and the competition for this coupe would be the likes of Infiniti G37s, Nissan 370Z's and BMW 3-series coupes, not Camaro's and Mustangs. The base platform is bound to have a docile look, but a GN package could be dressed up to look really aggressive, especially in the trademark all-black paint. After all, isn't that what the original GN was?

As long as they get the powertrain right (turbocharged muscle, RWD or AWD) I'd like it and think it would be welcomed, especially by anyone who's heard the lore of the original Grand National. It couldnt possibly look as downright mean as the G-body GN, but then again...we'd be mad if it did
