Vortec turbo motor GN

replied PM
And go with the 4.8, they will make as much power as the 5.3 very easy. Also they are one responsive engine! Just be prepared to buy a converter and a trans rebuild in the future.

Yea i was planning on a converter but not sure on what to get. got a suggestion? Thanks for the heads up on the turbo man that is cheep(master power T-70) I found one on Ebay new for 500.

Yank PY3600 would be the best bet, but its expensive, easy to find used though becaust its about the best street converter out there. Or a vigilante is a good choice.
The MP T-70 will make about 550whp max safely, for $585 you can get the Borg warner turbo i mentioned that will go up around 700whp on your setup, and is the way i would go.

i think the best motor to get is a 6.0 off the cadillacs or the u-haul rental trucks or just a basic ls1 off a junk camaro or firebird....you can find them like hot cakes on ebay

Some "idears"..
1. Change the head, rod, main bolts to ARP.
2. Plan on a speed density, 2 bar tune. [We use EFI LIVE V2]
3. Take a look at the hood line clearance ..The truck intake is ALOT taller than the LS1/LS6 intake.
3. Truck ft acces brkts are different than the Vette, Camaro.
4. Oil pan may be a problem.

These are just a few of the considerations.. I'm still finding "surprizes" w/ my LS engine in the 55 Chevy...

Thanks for the heads up Chuck. I figured the pan would be a problem. Thanks for the advice on the EFI tuning.

itsnotagn I will look into the BW too

you will need to switch to the car intake, or a single plane with elbow. Also the truck accesories will fit under the hood, but you might as well change them since the power steering doesnt fit by the steering box.
Also if your not very good with tuning, i would highly suggest getting HPTuners Pro. HPT has a much more useable and user freindly scanner, and with the pro you can input a wideband source. Just set the AFRs where you want them and it gives you a % error, copy and paste into the VE a couple times and the fueling is done.
+1 on the ARP rod bolts, but the main and head bolts are far more than adequate so dont waste your $ on them until you rebuild. Also when the time comes a set of COMP 918 springs or Patriot dual springs will be nice with a small cam.
One other thing, my friend still has a nice small comp cam and an f-body oil pan he may be willing to sell. Hell he even has a edelbrock single plane with elbow and set of 65# injectors with rails he will sell if your interested. This was all on a 4.8 and was making 425hp or so. Buy that stuff and HP Tuners and youll can have the complete 2-bar SD tune that we already have done.

Thanks guys here is the latest picture; just waiting on the motor and trans to get there from the Junk yard. Oh yea and for it to stop raining so I can get it outside and clean it up. I will tell you this car is in BAD shape I am soooooo glad I didnt try to restore it as an orgional GN.
Thanks ITSNOTAGN for all the advice PM a price for the intake setup. WHat should it cost me for the HPTuners Pro?

HPT pro is $650 vs the $500 for the regular, but it is very much worth it if your not very good at tuning. Ill ask him about that stuff, you want the whole intake/injectors setup and oil pan or just parts?

I don'tknow if removing your heater/AC box is an option, but doing that and going to manual brakes frees up a lot of room in the G-body.

Jim

I am build this as if I am keeping the AC box. Yea I am planning to change the master cylinder probally go to a hydroboost if I can keep the power steering.

Here is a couple pictures of the motor it look slike something is missing off the top of the motor can some verify this for me?
I know the mass air flow senser is missing I have it but what goes on the flat plate on top of the intake?

Also is there a reference guide for what some of these connectors go to?

BRP Muscle Rods Your LS1 - LSX Conversion Kit Specialist
this kit FTW, or just the motor mounts they are great.
My friend said $600 shipped (OBO) for the intake, cam and elbow. He need to keep the fuel rails but i think he has 65# EV6 injectors as well, at least he thinks thats what they are we havent figured it out yet.

Let me know what you come up with I dont want the cam; how hard will it be to replace the fuel rails?
