Beretta Turbo

this potential project isnt about makeing a car worth more, its making a car that i feel passionately about. i say screw market value, i never planned on selling the car, nor would i ever. its the car i got my license in, the car i graduated in, and its one of those few so called "POS" that GM made that has made it past 270k miles on the original engine and tranny with no rebuilds. i want this project because its my dream, not because i cant make any kind of profit from it.

I'm glad you are going into the USMC, its always nice to hear about someone who is willing to do service and give back. Although you may think those classes are pointless (and I agree having graduated college from a liberal arts school that they may seem so) but they have vaule that you probably don't realize. If you plan on getting a job after school many companies just want to make sure that you can handle the type of pressure and time management that is required to complete the classes. They may not be that interested in the fact that you learned more about the reformation or that you know what a past particple is, but they do want you to be able to prove that you are what you say your are and that you have the drive to get a job done, even if you don't like it. FYI, my current job has tested nothing that I learned, but I wouldn't have gotten it unless I was able to prove through academics that I could handle classes and assignments that I didn't want to take. Hopefully thinking something is useless is not the attitude you take with you to the service...but you will learn the value of everything your are forced to endure eventually. Good luck with the car.

I cant believe this kid has taken most of you experianced fellows for a ride this long. It's never going to happen, its just some kid with alot of time on his hands trolling forums making up a rediculous story.

Seriously? A beretta with a 100K budget? Does anyone seriously believe this? i could see 10K or even 20K but 100K? make it believable dude.

And Spending 100k on a 57 bel air is WAY different than spending 100K on a car that wasnt meant to be anything more than a economy coupe. The bel air is ACTUALLY WORTH something....and LOL at "its your dream".

Go ahead and build it, I call BS on this entire thing until i actually see some progress....

Sorry for being blunt I am just calling it like i see it.

im joining the USMC, and hope to gp tp college for free. i may take mechanical engineer courses, but i never want a degree. spending time on POINTLESS classes like engish or history are not going to fly with me.

.....You seriously believe that those kinds of classes are POINTLESS?!?!!?

Have fun in Marine basic, they LOVE getting idiots like you. Do the rest of us enlisted servicemen a favor and stay out of the military, we already have enough ignorant people signed up already.

why do i think history is pointless? because i have learned more about history from the history channel than from any history classes i have taken. in fact, most of the information in history 1860-present i already knew. sure, it reinforced what i had already known, but i dont like running through the same information twice.

and i just dont like english classes, i get bored and unless information interests me, its harder for me to learn.

just chill, no need to hate.

ill admit this might be a pipe dream, because my friend has offered me the money. i know they have it, but its a question of whether i will get it or not.

you are not a car enthusiast. the 57 bel air was a car for john doe, just like the beretta. until you get a grasp of what cars actualy are, stay the hell out of my thread.

i might reconsider going to college, its still 4 years down the road if im going, so i have plenty of time to think it through. thanks for the advice.:)

So you're a freshman in highschool? Ah that explains that.

1st, congrats for joining the USMC. Get ready for lots of time in the big sandbox, getting yelled at, being told what to do. You thought mom and dad were hard a-holes, the drill instructors at boot camp will make them look small.

There's nothing wrong with you wanting to spend $100k on your car. It's just that these guys are trying to point out what is logical and what isn't.

When I was 12...13...there was this old Studebaker truck I wanted to buy and restore. It didn't have an engine or trans and all the windows were smashed out, bullet holes in the sides, bed rotted out, seats cut all up, whole truck was covered in rust inside and out....at the time everyone told me it was junk not worth rebuilding at was really only good for a few parts.

I felt the same way as you...I thought the same way....well now 17 years later I realized that...yes it could have been restored....but it was in such bad shape I'd spend more money trying to save it as opposed to finding one already restored. Yes in deed it was more cost effective to have bought a restored one rather trying to save this one...which BTW was going to require lots and lots and lots and lots of metal surgery.

So now sure you could drop $100k into your Beretta....it might run 12's...or you could buy something like an LS1 Camaro...for $12k and a few tweaks and not even $1000 in parts and you're already running 12's. For less. So unless your Beretta is really sentimental to you.

And yes a 57 Chevy was also a "get you around the block" car like a Beretta....difference is it wasa made with quality and longevity in mind and was also a popular car to modify in the 60's. Which is why there's still a huge market for them.

A Beretta on the other hand was built with the idea of "it will last 10 years then be in the junkyard". That's how most 80's FWD cars were viewed as....is "throw away" cars. Plus it was never a half popular car to modify....there's virtually no aftermarket support for it....plus it's a FWD car which puts it at a disadvantage.

Not trying to steer you from your dreams but you have to think logically sometimes....as I understand you're still very young, so you have some learning to do....just telling ya how it is.

if i wanted to make a "drag" car, i would go snag a gremlin and build up a AMC 401 and pull 12s for under $10.

the beretta turbo is more of a "recreational" car, driven daily just because its that fun.

i understand why most would want me to spend less and just buy a camaro, but whats the fun in that?

OK so the truth is out. You got no money and are a teenaged BS troll. Stroker-ace is right. Go find a Honda site to ply your crap. I'm sure your diploma has a cardboard tube in the middle since you have such poor writing skills. When you get to the Marines (haha like thats really going to happen) they will have you on your knees begging to go home to mamma. They'll see right through your BS.

im a Marine now. hope you feel good. and the $100k didnt come. so you were right about that. was a little neive to think i was going to get it but thats what being young is about.

the project is about to get rolling as i now have access to a lot of parts and at a low price. 3.8 engine as well as a t-bird IRS is ready for the picking. im going to start tearing into the 3 cars as soon as spring comes out. going to use the Tbird tunnel and rear drivetrain and the carbed buick 6. i would like to get this car functional before i worry about fast, so the N/A v6 will be more of a mock up motor than a final powerplant.

Good for you. My nephew is a Lieutenant in the Marines. He's had 2 friends killed already. One was his roommate in the college where he did ROTC that was killed in Afganistan. He did the escort to his funeral in Maine. The other killed in training at 29 Palms with live fire.
The way my nephew has bounced around and will be deployed in March I cannot fathom you having the time and permanant location to work on your car. Early on you mention you want it to be a fast drag car. An Thunderbird IRS will not live. You will need to rethink that gem.

If you ever go to college, you'll need to take a remedial English class. Your writing skills are terrible. You'll never get promoted if you can't write a decent report.

This may or may not help you out Keiffith but a guy in Fort wayne, Indiana just sold a 1990 Chevy Beretta (daily driver) with a complete 1987 Buick Grand National drivetrain installed in the car. It was posted on Craigslist-Indiana/Fortwayne since Dec 1, 2010. The posting has expired but if you Google "Beretta 3.8 Turbo Buick Grand National Engine" you can still see the expired Craigslist posting ad. I saved a couple pics he'd posted of the Beretta. I'll see if I can post them later on today if not I'll email them to you. I Hope this helps or at least lifts your spirits.

I am A 2111 small arms repairman and i got stationed on School of Infantry. i have already been there a year, and i dont see them giving me orders to a deployable unit. so i do have a semi permanent place to work on my car, i just good get orders at any time.

i dont want this to be a fast drag car. unless a factory T- bird rear end cant take over 5-700hp.

and i know im terrible at english. its what happens when you spend elemementry and middle school casted to a dark corner.
