Those are the cars I lined up against at the drag strip yesterday evening.

I don't know if drag strip races can be considered "kills" here, but what the hell.

First up, the Calloway Camaro. Supercharged, 572 HP. I thought I'd get smoked. But the guy can't drive. I holeshotted him and held him off, winning by .3393 seconds.

I'm actually kind of disappointed in my times, considering my mods: Champion ported iron heads, slightly bigger cam, Precision intake & power plate, Jackson throttle body, TH down pipe, RJC boost controller.

Although I was getting a lot of knock on every run (15 degrees, plus or minus), and running 14 psi.

I think the 93 octane gas around here isn't what it used to be.

Nice kills. Be careful with the knock though. Hate to see you lift the heads. Knock at 14psi....sounds no bueno. What's else is in your combo?

14# and 15KR!?! wow. something is way wrong. I can run 16# on 93 in the FL heat with no KR. I am running 19-20 right now but I am taking timing out in 3rd thru the chip. I will abort if I see KR like that.

What fuel system and turbo are you running? What is your FP at WOT?

Stock turbo.
255 lph pump, 50 lb MSD injectors, Accufab AFPR

Not sure fuel pressure at WOT. But Scanmaster says high 700s/low 800s.

I think it's ****ty GA gas.

Nice kills sir. If I may make a recommendation...ALKY! :D

Jebus H. Cripes! Yes! I have an SMC alcohol kit at home in my garage that I keep forgetting about. I guess it's time to get off my rump and get that sucker hooked up.

Lyonsd,

I was having the same issues at low boost levels. 2 headgasket changes and cracked #2 piston later and found out that 50lb MSD injectors have problems opening with low boost and 50+lb fuel pressure which causes excessive knock due to a severe lean condition. Swapped to motron 60's and never looked back. Ask Cramer at RJC on his opinion of those injectors.

Hope this helps.

JB

Nice kills but...If that's real knock you're seeing, you've already beat the snot out of your bearings and rings and it's a matter of time before you blow a head gasket.
Next kill is your engine....

What mph are you seeing the knock at?

Stop leaning on it and track down the source of that knock....93oct at 14#...you should not see any knock...

What intercooler are you running??? With those mods you have to have something out of wack.... Are you monitoring anything during these runs?? Add all your mods to your signature so others can see what you have.. If you are seeing 15* of knock holy cow you were lucky to be able to drive that thing home!!!

Mods are here:

Turbo Connection

But I don't have the alcohol injection kit installed. And in addition to those mods, I have Champion ported iron heads and a cam (next common size bigger than stock).

Scanmaster showed high 700s low 800s, so it doesn't seem to be running lean.

Gotta stop thinking the ScanMaster is the end all be all on your tune. It records only a single point in time in the entire run and you have to hope it snaps the worst part...

I don't think anyone shoold be at the track making runs without a DirectScan or PowerLogger hooked up...just sayin'...at least then you can see the whole run and how any KR runs in and out during the entire run so you can make intelligent tuning adjustments.

Again....what mph was the KR recorded at?
The worst part of the run to get it is at about 65-85mph when you're at full load.

There is an issue...please listen to us...we're trying to help.
Please don't lean on it again until you find out what that issue is....take it to an expert for help...

It's the only data I have.

I'll have to look into that.

I don't know how to obtain that info. And I don't think it's still available in the Scanmaster.

Get a few gal of 116 and try that, quiest way to see if its real or not. If you fill out your signature with all of your mods we can help you a little better. Like mean chicken said dont go beating up on the car till you get this figured out.

Another day at the strip - Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA

4 wins, 1 loss (3 losses if you count my redlights - but only 1 car crossed the finish before me (not that it matters in time trials)).

Running BFGoodrich 225/60-15 street radials, and off the line I was getting about 19psi, but it settled to 16psi.

Congrats on the 12 sec run with a stroker motor. I see another rebuild right around the corner!! Alky isn't goin to do a damm thing if it isn't tuned right !!! I can see the thread now. Alky blew up my stroker motor

Oh well.

Seriously you need to stay out of boost until you find out what the problem is or you will be picking up your engine with a shovel! 15 degrees of knock is no joke. First step I would hook up a fuel pressure gauge and verify the base fuel pressure and insure a a rise of 1:1 boost/fuel pressure.
