Another Junk Chevy Duramax on video...

The colder weather the lower blend you use.
B-100 will start to gell around 32
B-20 -10
I live in NC is that is never going to be an issue with B-20.
I have talked to some guys that run B-80 yearround in NC with no problems.

Plus with ULSD the libricity becomes even more important.

Straight fry oil and Biodiesel are different. The oil is broken down by a process
called transterification.

What does the 4l80e transmission have to do with the engine & vehicle not being able to pull a simple 3500 lbs with the same confidence & ease as his 10 year old, low hp rated 12v DODGE Cummins? If i'm not mistaken his duramax is rated at almost double the hp as his old 12v Cummins. Do you have to wind up the duramax to get it in it's powerband?

As a side note to this: The owner of the dudymax in the video won his lawsuit with GM & was awarded $30,500 in damages & was able to keep what was left of the truck. This was after GM tried multiple engines in the truck, updated the cooling system & tamperproofed the truck & all electrical connections to make sure the owner wasn't bombing the truck. It's a shame it took a lawsuit to get GM to make good on this but I'm sure every manufacturer offers the same great customer service! I guess the owner can go buy a reliable Cummins powered work truck now. :)

Thanks for posting the outcome. I am impressed that GM put forth such an effort to correct the problem for this gentleman. If it were Dodge, they would have let the guy run around town in his Lemon with a big sign on the side of his truck. [Refer to post number 67]. Due to this gentlemans hardship and GMs dogged determination to solve the problem, I now own a better truck. :)

Too bad Dodge couldn't do something about those brakes. Or, maybe they have. I hope so.

I currently have a 2003 2500 4x4 with a Cummins & my wife's daily driver is a 2006 2wd Mega Cab with a Cummins. Both have great brakes & tow ANYTHING easily. I can't tell you about Dodge's customer service for repair work as we have never required ANY repairs & we use them as trucks. And that is with 7 new Dodge's in a row.

My wife was close to buying a new chevy silverado a few years ago but when the salesman got the exhaust hung up trying to get the truck off a curb she came to the conclusion it wouldn't work for us. I wonder if that truck is still stuck in front of the dealership?

Ya buts thats a van with a 4l80E:p

What's the deal here:confused: He don't have an allison behind his Dmax...I thought all of them were allison's.

Anyway, I pull 10k and mine never shifts out of OD unless I'm trying to run a steep incline at 80mph with 10,000 lbs. Any truck can pull more than double it's gross rating but no one said it's smart and you can bet your a$$ when he hit a hill he practically crawled up it.

He has a Duramax van

And the 4l80E has a different shift schedule than a Allison.

I know the differances between the two. By nature any vegetable base oil will wax long before a mineral base will. I speak from experiece. I burn about 700 gallons a week. I run from the midwest to new england and back once a week. I would NOT run bio in the winter months. Have you ever tried to start an engine that gelled up along the side of a highway? There are additives to help but why add $'s to an already more expensive fuel. There was about a .1 of a mpg inprovement with bio but not worth the extra expence.
This is on a class 7 tractor/trailer that only gets 6.1 mpg. Your results may varry.

Maybe somebody at GM should rethink the scheduled shift pattern? It's sad that with double the advertised hp it pulls far worse than his 10 year old Dodge. Am i missing something here? Oh that's right......it has a soft luxury car ride. I guess That makes up for poor performance?

I know a lot of people that run biodiesel and here were it stays generally warm, no problems. B80 for some folks here in NC(Yearround). And also B20 is cheaper than regular #2 were I live.

Sounds to me that the motor is de-tuned to make the 4L80 live behind the diesel. Why do you think the HD trucks got allisons rather than the 4l80?? I didn't even know you could buy something like that. GM must have had a lot of request for a durable, long lived quiet diesel for industrial use to even build anything like that. It's funny this fact wasn't known until Otto brought it up....nice try trying to make all Dmax's look bad based on this truck. We all know this Van is not built to pull like a 3/4 or 1 ton so there is no comparison. If you want real world towing comparison do some research on the diesel sites where they drag race all the diesels up a hill with weight behind them.....You'll be suprised how well the Max's stack up

That's right.Look up The Diesel Page at their towing contest and see the Duramax kill the Powerjokes and Smelly Goats.

Ridiculous

 Don as far as dodge not standing by warrantee or not willing to satisfy a customer,,,,back in 2001 I bought a brand new dodge off the lot, a week after buying it I noticed some small problems with the paint (shadows and thin areas). I contacted the dealer who put me in direct contact with chrystlers northeast rep within 10 days he responded back that noone else had one equally optioned and to stop in the dealership and order a new one and they would handle it. 5 weeks later i was taking delivery of a brand new truck with $500 more in options at no charge to me, and I got to drive the other truck while this went on. GUESS WHAT NO ARBITRATION AND D DAMM SURE DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE A VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dusty I guess you still dont have the whole story, because my OLD dodge has less power than the motor in my van and as far as a real world comparison ASK OTTO because he said and I quote "this truck pulls harder than my duramax" hmmmmmmm well if that not good enough then just go polish you bowtie tattoo stay uninformed:cool:

oh and if the van is detuned to not pull like a 3/4 or 1 ton then why is it a 3/4 ton rated truck? also the reason it downshifted is because I have to bury my foot to get any power out of it

Cummins is a good motor but the Dmax is just as good. If I wanted something to pull a tractor sled with I'd have a 12 valve cummins with a big pump and compound chargers:wink: so I wouldn't have to worry about modding a Dmax. But to pull anything you see on the road, huge car trailer, hot shot trailers, huge RV's the Max is as good as anything Cummins ever made. I have pulled 5th wheels with a 1999 3/4 ton Dodge and I'll take my Chevy all day over that rattle trap. I also replaced enough TPS sensors on a 95 Dodge to fill up the bed of the truck:cool: If you went on a long trip you better take a few spare TPS sensors with you and Dodge never could fix the problem. They all have issues now and then.

My friend just had his injector pump replaced on his 01 Max free of charge with over 100,000 miles on the clock because it had been getting weak for a while. That's good dealer service as well.

It's nice to see 1 chevy guy here agree that if you want to get the job done with reliable HP use a Cummins. That was the point of the video to show that a Duramax can NOT do the equal job of a Cummins equipped Dodge. Chevy agreed & paid the man.

Dusty you just said it yourself that a Dmax is not as good as a Cummins you wrote>
"Cummins is a good motor but the Dmax is just as good. If I wanted something to pull a tractor sled with I'd have a 12 valve cummins with a big pump and compound chargers so I wouldn't have to worry about modding a Dmax." IF the Duramax is just as good then why would you WORRY about modifing it???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

and I'm not bashing the Dmax just trying to state some facts

and I forgot to mention I was originally going to buy a 1 ton van but after a 1 hour drive to Davidson Chevrolet in Canton Ct They couldn't get the BRAND NEW van to start.....

I'm just gonna sit back and watch this one.... Don't pay any attention to the truck listed in my sig. either... ;)

Is this thread about stock vs stock reliability/power?? Or "bombed" reliability/power??

I won't be in B.G. '07 for the Nats but anyone with a Dura-maxipad in the NC area is more than welcome to join a group of us for a dyno day in the Raleigh/Durham area on Feb. 17th.

K.

That old dodge only has a $173.00 fueling plate in it so far?? WOW that's crazy stuff!! I had no idea chevy detuned the dudymax for van use. Is it because that's all the transmission can handle or all the engine can handle in real world fleet use? I would think if it was that weak towing 3500 lbs rich might be better off with a dodge caravan?
