I'll start ... In my area of NY we can use shot gun or pistol , and I prefer pistol. I shoot a T/C contender chambered in 358 JDJ. It allows me to set up and take much longer shots and forces me to take the one good shot. For inside 50 yds. I use a Ruger super redhawk in 454 Casull with open sights . They both kick like mules but hit like a train. The target was shot a couple of weeks ago just to varify that the Contender is still sighted in. I stopped after 2 shots ...I didn't want to waste good handloads on paper !! Sam

It depends on where I'm hunting and the distance I expect to shoot. My favorite rifle is my Swedish Mauser custom. 140 grain boat tail 6.5mm bullet does a great job in fairly open country and light woods. My P-17 custom is a 30-06 with a 168 grain boattail moly coated bullets and works great at 300+ yards. For really heavy brush I like my Marlin 45/70 with a 405 grain and max loads. And if I'm stalking in close range (less than 100 yards) I like my Rossi .357 lever carbine. The Marlin and the Rossi are open sights and give a good open view for fast shooting which is perfect for brush shooting.;)

Now if you're talking hogs I use other guns but the Marlin works great as well.:D

In the woods on PA. All you need is a 30/30. Perfect cheap brush gun. And it was my deceased step fathers so I have an attachment to it.

Within a 100yrds you can't beat a 30/30... Or even a shotgun slug combo!

Me, I shoot a 300WSM:D

Browning 308 BLR .....can't seem to get a good deer with it yet though not that that is the guns fault.

It use to be shotgun only in NY southern zone and I think the deer knew it cause you would always see them out past 150yds in the fields.:( That's why I got into single shot pistols, they are not safe anymore .:D

well i have three guns i use i have a savage model 10 243 with a 3-9x40 scope a marlin 336 3030 which is shot open sight and my prized treasure my winchester model 70 ultimate shadow in a 300 wsm winchester short mag caliber very powerful and has awsome range but really its a lil big for deer i use it on long range shots but the last time i shot anything close i killed a 9 pointer with it and the bullet went clear thru at 150 yards and needless to say the part where the shell entered it was not much left but a 3030 243 a 270 is a good all around gun for about anything and shells are only bout 20 a box for remington core lokts in the 3030 the best shell ive shot is the hornady leverevolution shells they have alot more range a 30-06 or a 308 are good guns to.

If you've got a big enough smoker I can give you a really good recipe for a full smoked shoulder or hind quarter.;) It will take at least 12 hours to cook it but you won't believe how good it is.:D

Trying to decide on something .300/.308/.338 myself... Keep 'em coming!!

When I used to hunt, before moving to Fl where the deer are nothing more than large dogs. I never needed anything more than my Winchester 1300 20ga. Adjustable chokes, good for anything. That's in on the right, 25yrs old. Middle is my TC .50cal for black powder season.. whenever I can actually move back to Michigan.

My dad just got a 7pt buck at 7:15am on the 15th with his pump .410.. lol. This just a week after getting a 10 point buck... with his 2005 GMC Canyon....
