Wet sand and buff with DA

eBay has some good deals on the Dewalt buffers. I've been using an 849 for about 15 years. Dewalt has a newer model 849X. Suppose to be more powerful and lighter.

Steve I bought a used 2012 ram and got a great deal on it because of the paint. I corrected my truck with a dual action porter cable 7424xp, Menerza fast gloss FG400, vented backing pad, & microfiber cutting pad. I then waxed the truck with Mequires NXT tech wax and a polishing pad. Its definatly a time consuming process but well worth it in the end, as you can see you can get plenty out of a random dual action and its very forgiving rather then a rotary or DA. There are new process's being used rather then the old school wool pad.

Power washed
Washed by hand twice

Easier to use then a DA but the results are the same.

How the entire truck looked before I started

Claybar. After doing one 12"x12" section of tailgate. This is after the above wash's I went through 1 bar of clay on this truck.

Left side of tape corrected

All Finished

FYI...the porter cable 7424xp is a random orbital action (also called dual action), it is not a Rotary/Circular polisher.

Goes to show that a DA can do a great job and one does not really need a Rotary. Actually, if one has a Rotary, you will probably need a DA to correct what the rotary left behind unless you are season pro with the rotary.

Had a member contact me off the forum. He came over Sunday left me his Flex da and a bunch of other stuff to try. Finally got to it tonite, used 3m compound, yellow pad. Removed a bunch of scratched on my 2005 GMC truck., got all the scratches out on my practice wet sand n buff fendar. Think I am gonna try the trunk of the freshly painted Monty Saturday. I have meguires 3000 grit paper...wish me luck:)

Been real busy putting up a new pool and fixing the pool deck. But that's done and I got a customers buick dropped off last Sat. This weekend I am gonna play with my toys and try not to mess up the paint on the Monte.:)

ive had really good luck with lake country pads on a porter cable, especially the hydro tech (low profile ones). This was done my a orange pad with megs 105 then a black pad 205 and a coat of dodo juice. They leave a mirror finish and if you guys havent tried dodo juice purple haze you are missing out!

Those are some pretty cars! I did half the trunk and it looks good. I only used 2500 and 3000, may try 2000. I have been being real careful not to sand through the clear. Slow process.

Decklid LR quarter is done. I did burn through a small spot on LR quarter . I also hit a spot on the rear bumper. Neither spot is too bad. Car still needs front end reshot from accident so I may ask him to re clear the entire car again. Today onto the roof, sail panels, RR quarter doors, maybe the hood.
