Vegas hotel info?

How do I get in touch with Craig regarding hotel info?...just wondering what the candidates are...if any...

I am in Vegas this weekend and plan to visit a couple different hotels close to the track to obtain info for the Phoenix group. Will find out about a block of rooms at an easily accessable location, good and secure parking all at a decent rate?

Also talked with one of the Supra organizers about them wanting to do a Buick vs. Supra run-off, and will have more info about this too.

LV hotel info

After checking out some possible Las Vegas hotels for our Phoenix group, I made an arragement with the Cannery.

It is very close to the Strip, 5-10 minutes even in rush hour traffic, has outdoor parking for trailers in a secure location and is only a couple years old and very nice.

They allowed a block of 20 rooms set aside for Oct. 14-15. It will take a couple days to finalize the details, and set up their computers before we can make reservations.

Since this is more than the Phoenix group will use, others are welcome to join us there. Maybe Craig and the LV group will want to expand the blocked number of rooms for the "host hotel"?

Will have the all the info next week and post it for those wanting to make reservations. One thing I do know, any rooms NOT reserved by Sept. 23, will be released to the public and our special rate will not be available after then.

What time does the racing start Sat?,
and what is going on Sat at the track until that time?

the cannery does not have an RV park.

that is really not a big deal if they let us stay at the track again though. it is kinda nice to stay at the track that way i can keep a close eye on the cars and the gates are locked.

Due to another event being scheduled Sat morning/afternoon,is it possible that the cars may not be allowed to stay overnight Fri night, making it necessary to take them back fri night and bring them back Sat evening?

Probably not the case Gary, they have a massive paved pit area as you know, and the next day's event s rather small by Vegas standards. :)

Oh, it wasn't that bad. They had a decent bar, what more do you want?

A room that did not smell, not hearing police sirens all night and all the gansters that hung around the 7-11 all the time.

where did you stay?

I think we go through this hotel situation every year, so let me re-iterate this year...
1. Sorry if you didn't like the hotel last year.
2. Vegas is built on gamblers, not drag racers. It's this reason that it's difficult to reserve a block of (say) 100 rooms when the casino knows that the people are there for racing. That's a lot of profits down the drain for them.
3. Most local hotels do not have RV/trailer parking. This really limits our pool of choices.
4. We try to get something economical. If people would rather have a $109+/night room on/near The Strip, I can let Craig know.
5. We suggest a host hotel because it met the above conditions. And from the comments last year, more people would like to party together. It's tough to get people together when they're staying in various parts of the valley.

So "bit your quitching" or we'll just skip setting up a host hotel, letting every man fend for themself.

FWIW & IMHO:
I think that the host hotel last year was better than I expected in several areas. Resturants, for one, cars safe from thievery, another plus, and what seemed to be plenty of bike guards checking throughout the night. My hat's off to the people/club/organization/group that schedules/plans/executes this race event every year. I am sure that they do the best that they can under very adverse conditions to continue this event.

Last year we stayed at Arizona Charleys its off the strip and about 15 mins from track . Nice, clean hotel/ casino.

Arizona Charlies, I thought, was fine.....but then again, I think the most important thing is that we're all in the same hotel- whether it be The Mirage or the Motel 6- I'm there for Buicks, everything else is secondary.

We came out without the car from Florida, it was a combonation Vacation and go to the race. So for us Arizona Charlies worked out good. But the more I think about it, it was not a place I would leave my car on the trailer, the parking lot it was to full and busy 24 hours a day. But it was the host hotel last year...

As Jack Bilger has indicated, we as a group, don't gamble enough to be invited back to the hotels that have hosted us in the past. We used to say that the fisherman from Iowa would come to Minnesota with a new pair of bib overalls on and a $20 bill and wouldn't change either during the visit.

These hotel casinos have ways of knowing how much in gambling receipts the various groups represent and we're not big spenders at the casinos.

It's going to get increasingly more difficult to reserve a block of rooms for the Nationals because of this. While it would be great for all of us to stay at the same place, I don't think it's feasable.
