Wastegate or BOV????

A friend and I were having an discussion. What is it that makes that noise between shifts, BOV or wastegate?

It sounds like neither. It sounds almost exactly like the sneeze on the stock turbo on our Buicks. It's caused by pressure backing up when the throttle is closed. I would think a Skyline would have a BOV so if I had to make a choice it would definitely be the BOV. You'd hear the wastegate as it regulates boost, not necessarily between shifts.

The wastegate will only be heard if it is dumped into the atmosphere, and thats only at WOT. The Bov releases air as not to have the excess air the turbo creates to be thrown back into the fins of the turbo when the gas is let off. Thats definitley the BOV and if not, thats the excess air hitting the fins.
