No cold air from a/c

Guys, my heating system and vents all work well, but I cannot get cold air from the a/c. Is there an obvious place to start?
I have no knowledge of a/c systems and local specialists here in the UK won't help as my car is not European spec:frown:

Tim,

If I had to guess you are probably low on refrigerant or out completely.

Not having any experience unless you willing to spend money on equipment and do some reading on here you may want to look around real hard for someone who may know what they are doing as far as a/c goes and has the tools to work on them.I would think there has to be someone who works on/has old American cars that you can go to who will help you out.

Do you know if you are still running R12 refrigerant or has it been converted to R134? That is something you should know if you can find out as who ever does any work on it will probably need to add some refrigerant to the system at some point and you don't want to mix the two.If it's still R12 and your not willing to convert it (to save money)the refrigerant can be expensive....especially if you don't fix the leak and it leaks back out.......that's if you have a leak.

Hi Rubicon,
yes i'm sure it has the old R12 refrigerent in it. The previous owner had the car 12 yrs and I know he never touched the a/c system.
I live in a rural area with no American car workshops any place near beyond engine machining, so I guess it's of with the T tops and on with the baseball cap in the short term.
Thanks for hints.
