That´s about it. Some of the stuff I don´t know much about. For example my fuelpump. It's an Aeromotive, but I don´t which one.
I can´t find any numbers or info on it and they all look pretty much the same.
Here is a picture on it: http://kiruna.d2g.com/photos/street&strip/23.gif

Thats enough parts in there to run 9s! Make sure the wiring to the pump is at least #10 gauge with a hot wire Kit. If you keep getting knock, we will have to keep reducing the timing just before the knock occurs. You will have to decide on if your using alky as your going to need two different programs, one with and one without alky. I dont see why we can't run 25 psi on this and pick up 200 hp from where you are now once its all dialed in.

I have been busy all day here with our little local race. I also tested the car, 1/8 in 7,9.. with knocks, so it was no fun.

9s runs its a little bit too much to hope for I guess, my goal with this car has always been like.. high 10's. :)

I will countinue with this, hopefully tomorrow.
There is lots of HPs missing, and I definetly need help to find them!

Thanks,
Daniel

Where are the logs? You wont be running high 10s at 13 psi boost! How much knock and where??I have added a new program with even less timing, if it knocks now theres something else Wrong? The car maybe slow now though. Can you get high octane fuel there to see if the knock goes away?

Question for FAST XFI Experts

I have a bank to bank FAST system, and I'm upgrading to XFI. I've spent a lot of money having the old bank to bank system tuned, so the program is very good. How can I port my program from the old bank to bank system to the new XFI? Is this possible? I'd rather start with the old program as a tuning baseline rather than start from scratch.

Thanks!!
James

Sorry, did not do any logs today from the "race". Could not have a laptop in the car then. :(

I can´t buy high octane fuel here.

I know that I need more boost to do good times and hopefully we will get there. A little problem is that I live above the Arctic Circle so the car season is very short here.. There is one more race coming up that might be possible for me to enter this year. Its a 4 hour drive to get there.. That is next weekend so I don´t now yet if it´s realistic to plan that.

I will start working on the car tomorrow again. Will change another hose from the turbo first and then get out on the road and get some more new logs.

Earlier I got help from a really smart dude (Emil) but he lives 5 hours from here by car. He is not a FAST specialist, he is buildning on something called VEMS. But it gets too expensive for him to get up here and help out.

So I must say once again; THANKS for all the time your spending for me!
It is really appreciated! And the word spreads over here to, "there is a canadian guy helping Melvin with the car". ;)

I´ll get back here as soon as I can.

They won't allow a laptop in the car? You know theres a guy who makes a bracket for it on this board? Anyway try the new program and see if the knock is less. When you use alky at what point is it coming on? You may have to turn it on sooner or increase the setting..I think your fuel is very poor quality there or the air density up there is poor.

Also i am German, just living here in Canada

The air up where he lives is the best. It´s just that our P.O.S. fuel is very bad. I could get some VP CSP, but it costs $26/gallon

And Melvin, get the car fully running and skip that race next week. You know that both Uffe and I are putting money down for You to take the 680 mile drive down here at 2-3 sept.

NORBS>>> No, we´re not allowed to have anything loose in our cars at the race. Some people try to get the car through with the seatbelts holding the laptop :) But on a stand would be a different thing.

I see the knock, you must have some poor octane fuel up your way. i have reduced the timing a bit. Try it again, and i reduced the iac paramters, might help the surging a bit. Its idling rougher since its leaner, it better than idling rich and fouling the motor up. If it stalls increase the idle gains a bit. I little bit of tweaking of the fuel map too. Stay away from the alky for now until you get this knock sorted out. What fuel are you putting in this? Your new prog is added in the zip. Keep trying. You need the windows update to 1.020 get the l key or go back to dos version.

Norbs,

I also have version 1.005. How can I get version 1.020 ? Can I transfer my existing program (tune) to the newer version ?

George, in ALBERTA

Back with some small updates here.

New logs/gct at: http://kiruna.d2g.com/fast_files/

BUT... there is always this big butt.

I tried your new program, which seems to work almost good. But... there must be something else wrong here.
The first WOT run, the car "back fired", don´t know if that is the right word here, a loud bang anyway. Probably too much fuel from running on idle for a while?
In the second WOT run (low boost) Thomas (my garage mate) thought he saw a dip on the fuel pressure gauge when it starts to get up to 50PSI. The boost pressure is going up and the fuel starts to fall?
To be sure we did another WOT run, yep - there it was again.

15 minutes later we were in the garage again, now the tank will come off and I will also test the fuel pump in a way.. that I think we will manage. Hopefully we will find some serial number on the pump as well.

What I found so far that was bad is that the fuel filter was kind of dirty. But I think I have a new replacment one that will fit. Russel, will flow for 1000hp.

I also saw my line back to the fuel tank.. I think that is the stock line to the engine. This line might be big enogh but it still has it´s stock filter, mounted the wrong way... That must be fixed as well.

Please have a little look at my logs files ans gct, we did some changes in the VE table and I think we got it better.

Lunkan have offer me to come and race down south in Sweden, free gas probably a nice bed and a BBQ waiting as well. But.. that is not going to happen. :frown: I can´t be a away from my job that weekend and I have no one that could follow me down in a "normal" car.
Next summer - for sure, but not this time.

The only race I can enter is this Saturday, my goal is to get there if we got the car up and running NICE before that.
I work night shift all week.. so sleeping will have to wait, otherwise the race is just to forget.

Don´t count me out yet! :D

Your fuel system doesn't sound too good there. The wide open back fire looks like it went full lean, and it then knocked. Either a tip in stumble, or air pocket in fuel pressure. The fuel pressure should go up 1 psi for each pound of boost. You should maybe go with a smaller injector. The injectors are a bit big in my opinion. The max size i would go is a 83 lb injector. However fix your fuel system first.

Yes I know, they are a little bit big. But I don´t think that is the biggest problem for the moment.
I had 72's before this and they went over 100% in duty cycle, but the problem then was not that the injectors was too small, it was that the voltage dropped under 11v.

More news tomorrow..

Well, that should have been a hint that theres a problem. 72's would take you up to about 580 RWHP.

There is nothing in this car that has not been a problem, believe me.
I bought it last year in CA and though it was a really good deal... :D
Well, the parts in it are all "new" and the former owner have a great taste when it comes to shopping speed parts. Unfortenly he did not hire a serious mechanical to install the stuff.

The biggest joke ever must have been the days before they shipped the car to Sweden.. and leaved the car to "Hye Tech Performance" for tuning.
I feel really sorry for Mr Burg that have trusted theese guys and Jason D..
So much money wasted. It´s crazy.

But that is history now and like I said; more news tomorrow!
I think the fuel tank has some secrets to reavel for us (I would be really suprised if they have manage to install it correctly)

It´s always nice to talk to You Melvin, and I always get a good laugh to hear about Your adventures in the garage :) Just too bad it´s with this car... And it´s also too bad that You can´t get down here next weekend, would´ve been really nice seeing You again.

As for the big injectors, can´t You lower the "opening time" (don´t know the correct word) of the injectors, lower the ms of time opened?

What about the FPR?

Would the stock feeder line be enough as return line with this pump/setup?

Hi Guy's

I had briefly scanned thru the posts and know that Melvin is in good hands with the help & suggestions he has received so far. :)

I was curious, as I didn't see a reference as to his usage of a BHJ balancer??

If I missed somewhere about checking Crank Reference Offset, this might also add to some of the knock issues problems??

Most if not all BHJ set-ups with the DIS need some adjustment of the Crank Reference entry?

In my case prior to switching to a Distributor set-up...my C.R. on my DIS needed to be set to 6 deg vs the normal 10 deg for the stock balancer.

Just checking to verify his set-up??

Joe

I am not sure if he has a BHJ or not, but that is a good point to check the reference angle with a timing light. Good thinking Joe!

If the engine has a steel crank it should have an aftermarket harmonic balancer. These balancers sometimes have the timing ring installed in the wrong place, so the timing is off, making your car ping even though you have low timing in the map. BHJ is rhe company who makes the balancer. If you balancer is about 1" thick and has numbers scribed in the diameter its an aftermarket unit. Can you check this now?

I will check this tomorrow in the garage! I will take some pictures of that too.
Thanks.

Found some horrible things about my fuel tank, just like we expected!

The fuel line is damaged, not by an accident - some stupido have bent it over the knee or something.
And there was a hole in the tank on top, that I don´t think should be there..?
And the fuel filter that was mounted the wrong way on the return line was so full of dirt that it was almost impossible to blow throgh it. When I blew air through that filter it dripped out something that look more like oil.. than fuel.
So nice.

I can post some photos on it when I get back home from my night shift.

The Aeromotive fuel pump did not have any numbers on it, makes it hard to identify it.
