I guess I may be too poor to stay in the GN game. I've been a GN owner since '90, but I may be limited on what I do from here. I see an '87 grille goes for over $400. I just saw a post on Ebay for what looked like a single blue stripe for $50!
Good thing I bought that '87 grille for my '85 a couple years ago ($140.) For $400 I just might sell it! Wow, I have to go through my storage bins and start selling parts! My 2 NOS 86 -87 and my 85 NOS hoodliner could bring some cash. I guess that will at least pay for gas for awhile
Maybe I'll just restore a Corvette, it can't cost much more! What the hell happened? I thought this was a car we could all afford! I understand the market, but to see this big of a jump just pisses me off!
Now, I'm the first to appreciate that this is the only car I have ever owned that goes up in value every year. However, I just don't understand the "HUGE" jump in prices!
I guess if someone will pay it, then what the hell! With that being said, I know there are many vendors charging reasonable prices for parts. The whole thing just has me pissed off, so I thought I would rant here and see if anyone else feels my pain!

There's no way someone in their right mind would pay that much....then again. My brother bought a spare grill two hoods and a steering wheel and the most expensive piece was the steering wheel. I think somebody is trying to rob somebody else.:frown:

well your getting more and more of the show and shiners and less of the racers.. cars have gone up in $$$ so you will start getting some "collectors" and prices are goin to go up .. oh discontinued parts are goin to be what the market will take. new NOS parts are NOT goin to come down  so if your fed up with the prices I'd say bail out now and in years to come you can say to others "hey I HAD one of those cars":p I do think HA parts prices won't go up for a while because of the demand for the intercooled cars:cool:

dont forget to dig out the OEM valve cover bolts, I seen a set on Ebay touted as "the ones everyone needs and nobody has" for the low low price of 75 bucks per bolt

as far as restoring vettes, got 4 under my belt but only one numbers correct to the tune of 60k plus:eek:

Remeber the old saying "if its got mammary glands or a motor it's going to cost you money."

Nature of the beast and comes down to simple economics of supply and demand. Agreed that some stuff is gouged up there much too high. Corvette owners/ restorers have it much better with many more reproduction parts available. Hopefully, vendors will begin to repop critical parts needed for these cars. I'll stay the course with the Buicks.

Prices are going to continue to rise... Hold on or stock up now!

yeah got quoted a price on OEM pass ram manifold...of course it had to be the side with the heat tube hole bossed on the top for choke.
anyway the OEM was $3hundysomthin and the imported option was like 86 bucks..lol

i had crack on mine...i took the heat to it, got most the slag out i could and welded it, it held..dunno how but it did..lol

back to my leaky crossover now:mad:

If you restore a Corvette... you'll also have extra hidden costs like gold necklaces and chains, Member's Only jackets, Viagra and hair implants.

Take a look at this thread: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/turbo-lounge/261284-gm-absurdity.html The author claims he has seen NOS filler panels for GN's in the $900 range, mind you these are urethane pieces that are guaranteed to one day crack and/or rot off.

GN parts I think are going to continue to rise because like muscle cars, a GN is considered a collectible and parts are going to be high.

Must be why there's so many GN thefts.

HEY easy i have a members only jacket, no chains though.....blew all my money on the jacket:D

Alot of the price increase is from GM discontinuing alot of the parts.I was told by the dealership I buy from, when you see GM raise the price of a part all of a sudden on an older car that they will probably discontinue it real soon!!!

I found new GN headlight bezels still sealed in the original GM boxes for $200 on ebay and bought them the day it was listed. Snatched them up when I saw prices everywhere else. They are hidden away.

I understand the supply and demand situation... I guess we have just hit that point where everybody demands and there is no supply. Aftermarket parts are questionable... I have a new aftermarket piece of **** header panel in my storage shed that proves that point! You guys know the part... it's the one that a few reputable vendors are selling. I now have a $200+ POS I have no idea what to do with. If I were building a drag banger it would be okay.

My advice, don't buy the aftermarket header panel. It's like the "Fisher Price; My first header panel." Looks cheap, built cheap, fit's cheap... oh yeah, you also have to drill all your own holes, even the rectangle ones for the headlight mounts! Sorry, I didn't find the "rectangle" bit in the Craftsman catalog. I'm currently working on a standard header panel. I've filled in the emblem hole with fiberglass, but now it's too hot to do any paint work in my garage in Florida.

I was just throwing the Corvette reference out there... Maybe if I hold on to my parts long enough I'll be able to buy that Z06.

Oh yeah, as for hot air parts not going up in price... what??? The number of parts made for the hot airs was a lot less. Less cars produced = less replacement parts produced. GM was out of stock on most hot air parts years before they started running out of 86-87 parts!!! Trust me, I've been going to the parts counter since the early 90's!

Look at the total production numbers of turbo cars (from GNTtype.org.)
86-87: 35,486
84-85: 9408

I wish there were more parts available for the hot-airs from GM!
