Double check my starter wiring....

Well the new motor is in the car, and things are going about as typical as they ever do.

Look at these pics and reassure me about some wires...

This is the part of the harness that runs down to the starter. There is the one wire with the small ring connector that goes to the small post. Then there are the other (4) wires. Do they all 4 go to the large post? Three of them have identical ring connectors but the one (second from the right) is similar, but a little smaller overall (same ID though). I just need reassurance that they all 4 go to the large post on the starter.

Also, there were the 4 ring connectors with the star washer built in that are supposed to go to ground, right? Two with two wires on one connector, and two with only one wire. All four are ground right?

I've evidently hooked something up wrong or got a short somewhere. Just figured I'd start with one end and go to the next.

Thanks

While looking over the wiring diagram, it shows 4 wires connected to the large ring, so the 4 wires with the larger holes are for that, and the one small ring to the "S" connection as you suspected.

The wires back by the fire wall are the grounds. Usually two of them go to one bolt on the back of the head, and two go to another bolt back there. Very difficult to get at.

This is why I got the Caspers Ground Stretcher kit. (Best money I've spent in a long time). I think I have a picture of it in my GN Photo Album (in the link in my sig). I also have the fusable link relocator that moves almost all of those starter wires up out of the starter area. Pictures of that in my sig link also.

Thanks Dave.

Yep, those two bolts on the back of the head are next to impossible to get to (actually, one IS impossible). I think I've hooked something up wrong, but I can't imagine what. I've been going over everything in my head since last night. Guess I'll be tracing gremlins....I hate electrical fubars.

The only way I was able to get at those bolts was from under the car, and using one of those new ratcheting Gear Wrenches. A set of those are worth their weight in gold IMHO.

I just bolted all four ground wires together and ran a 10 gauge wire to the front of the block. It seems to be alright, anyone else did this?? Just curious.

Thanks,

Paul
