99 Silverado...stuck in Drive..loose shifter?

Yesterday I started my truck and put it in drive.. While doing so, I felt the shifter loose all its tension. Now the tranny is stuck in Drive and it wont go into park or anything else. The shifter is loose and it wont start back up now that its stuck in gear. Anyone have any ideas? Easy fix or nightmare? Thanks

You broke the shifter cable or knocked it loose from the mount at the tranny end. It's real easy to do on a 4WD truck when changing the tranny fluid (ask me how I know).

The shifter 4L60E is really just a switch in the trans and all shifts are done by the ECM.

If it's the lower cable then it's a pretty easy fix (might be able to patch it with JB Weld.) Lower cable replacemnt is easy. Upper cable replacment means removing the dash.
