M mikestertwo Well-Known Member Joined Sep 13, 2006 May 13, 2017 #2 I have seen that a couple of times. That happens when the rod isn't captured in the cup. Better designed thermostats have a ball on the end of the rod which is crimped into the cup to keep it from pulling out.
