Axle bearing or Pinion

I am hearing a whining noise from about 30 to 50 MPH that sounds a lot like a rear axle bearing. However, it also has a vibration when i get up over 75 MPH. Could that be the pinion bearing?

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

I had the same problem and it ended up being the gears. Couple things to check 1st though. Does it make noise when turning? If yes may be wheel bearings. Is it a high pitch whine? High pitch growling/grating sound could be pinion bearing. If it is a high pitch whine between 30 and 50-60 and mainly under light throttle and disappears when you let off the gas I would say gears. Bought my parts from Randy's ring and pinion(Have website). They had great prices and had oem gears(which I wanted).

Good luck, Joe

Thanks for the comeback Joe.

No, it doesn't make any noise when turning. It does make the whining whether at even throttle or coasting. Can't hear it under power. It really does sound like an axle bearing except for the fact it has this vibration at higher speeds. It very well could be the gears.

Thanks again.

Anyone else have a suggestion or opinion?

Dan
