welding question dealing with exhaust

i have a stainless steel downpipe and an aluminum exhaust. what is the best way to weld them together on the car? can i just mig weld it? tig weld it? gimme some help here. thanks

not to question your knowledge of metals, but are you sure that the exhaust is aluminum? It could be aluminized coated steel. If it is actually aluminum, no you can't weld it to stainless. If it is coated steel, it will weld fine with mig or tig. Tig welding on the car is a little safer IMO, less weld spatter.
