UPPER relocaion brackets II

I sent a few early pics of the bracket/control arm assy I designed & built to Kevin a week or so ago. Here is a few links to the final products awaiting to be installed sometime this weekend. Once i get them installed, I'll order a set of springs to lower the back of my car and then take some measurements to plot out the instant center of the two hole locations.

BTW, this system I designed relocates the instant center on the front side of the control arm, not the back rear housing end like no-hops do. I had to do this as my current Gazan upper bars and no-hops hit the Wolfe RaceCraft anti-roll bar, even worse if I try to lower the back end of the car down 2" as I plan to. I put a 30" tall tire on my car two years ago and the added tire height really stuck the back end of the car up in the air...toom much for me, so it's gotta come down some.

Anyway...here's the links to the pics...

Oh man, I was 2 seconds behind you editing your post!!!:D

Sorry, I was trying to cut-n-paste two things at once...had to go back to edit to finish the links posting.

It seems as though I've mis-spelled re-location in my post title...DOH!!! :D

Wow! that looks like alot less work than the job I did. I cut and welded everything to still use the stock controll arms. Very nice pieces and design. Now how about the lowers? I had to take mine 1.67" down from the factroy hole, doing the same welding routine. I used 4" boxed tubing and cut one end out of them. I then welded another peice of 1/8" steel to the inside to snug them up against the bushings. Making some for solid HIEM ends would be more fiasible(sp?) though.

Nice work.

You definitely are working on the right end. I have similar ideas brewing. I'll hopefully be starting on a parallel but not identical project soon too I hope.

Hey! What is this hoser Malibu guy doing on a Turbo Buick board?!

Probably has a 414 cube BBC in it or some junk like that! ;)

Just kidding, Todd... it is nice to see that you are still posting on the internet... and on message boards other than Phillip's :)

Care to make me a set of those upper brackets?! ;) :D

Take care,

hey slowazzbu. ive been working with kevin on a relocated instant center. im lowering the back 1.50 to 2.00 inches. im still looking for a spring to get me down without any bracketry. im looking pretty hard at a set of belltech part no. 5100. im notinto cutting on the pigtails. have you decided on a spring yet?
anyone else wantto ring in on a rear spring?

thanks jerome baker

I finally got the pics of the suspension pieces (installed) developed. Here's a link to them...

Michael...Yea, I'm still around. What else am I gonna do?;)

I might consider reproducing these pieces, but I've got some testing to do before I know if the design works well or not. They won't be cheap though...the rod ends alone are $50 each.

Jerome, I decided to use the Moroso trick coil springs. I took measurements of my current springs and compared several springs including having custom coils wound. It turns out the Moroso's lowered my car 1 3/4" over the previous setup. I bought two sets of the Moroso springs and matched the alike spring rate coils. With the Wolfe anti-roll bar, your not supposed to use different rate springs as they create a preload condition which isn't supposed to be there with the anti-roll bar. I now have two different sets of springs with two different rates to test with. The current springs are the 120 #/in models and the 140 #/in are on the shelf (which lower the car an additional 3/8" to 1/2").

I have pics of the before and after lowering on my site...click the link in my sig if interested.

Very very interesting. Thanks for the response on the springs. I like how you tied in your relocation brackets on the bottom end. Jerome.

...Not much else, other than to keep doing the Mr. Mom thing well :D I trust the rugrat (or is it rats?, I can't remember) are still doing well? ;)

(not trying to change the direction of the thread here but...)
Your sig still says 414 ci BBC.
I thought that you were building a "bigger" motor for the 'Bu? Or did you see the projected costs of College in the future and scraped the project?

Michael,

I do stil plan to build a bigger shortblock, but that's off in the future. I calculated the costs and it's gonna be about $4500-5000 of which I just don't have now. The lil rat is running well now, so as ong as that continues, the 454 shortblock is on hold. I figure once the 414 wears out or blows up (which ever comes first), then I'll have to get more serious about finding $$$ to fund the project.

We preparing to build a new home within the next year, so funds now are geared towards those expenses.

BTW, the little one is now two years old and doing fine...no new ones on the way, just yet:)
