servo question

i came across a working 84 transmission and i read that i should swap over my 87 servo and governor..
im trying to switch over the servo but it wont seem to go in. what exactly to i switch over all the "cup looking things", springs, and the pin??
cant seem to get the retaining pin back in

Sounds like you are trying to swap the servo and its apply pin (right things). There may still be an ancient post on the board where Chris outlined how to line up the band and get things back together. IIRC it involved a (long thin?) screwdriver.
I've never done it, just read the board occasionally.

If your car is a TR and the donor wasn't, valve body, transfer plate and internal wiring (including case plug) also need to come along. Hardened stator support?
