I've had the same pump in my car for over 12 years and never replaced it or rebuilt it. I normally run a 50/50 mix and have never drained it. Does the water mix protect the pump that much or am I just lucky?

Your not really leaning on the pump from a volume standpoint to not need a rebuild.
It has to be leaking at that point
Logging pressure will let you know what's happening.
I have an Alky pump tester and I use it. It's a nice little bit of insurance for not much money. I also have a backup pump on the shelf at all times. When it's time to rebuild, easy swap.
