I need a solvent to remove powder coat. What will do it... I was surprised Xylene didn't touch it.

Thanks,

I usually just soak it in carb cleaner overnight. It normally takes it right off. What is left on, can be sandblasted pretty easily.

Are you stripping the whole piece, or just a little patch? Most powdercoaters have a small oven they use for burning off old powder when they need to redo a piece. I think our coater uses about 600 deg F for an hour or two, but it may go faster (course, their small oven is 6'x6'x6' inside so it takes a little while to warm up). Don't breathe the fumes :). We get a fair amount of stuff coated there, and I don't think they have ever charged us extra to burn off a piece before coating it.

Well actually I work for a brake manufacturer and we get back plates in here. Last shippment had a bad coating on it, but we need to remove to coating to see if its the back plate itself or just to coating before we assemble them and send them out to our customer.
