For those of you who don't already know, Gateway International Raceway will be hosting the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series this weekend, Friday through Sunday. An LODRS event is basically an NHRA POWERade National Event without Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

However, the event DOES include 280 mph injected nitro-burning dragsters, Top Alcohol Dragsters, and Top Alcohol Funny Cars as well as wheelstanding Super Stockers, 200 MPH Top Sportsman and Top Dragster machines and every other NHRA sportsman division. Over 500 enteries filled the pits at GIR for this event last year and it looks like over 600 will make it in 2007.

The best part of the deal is the spectator admission. Friday's ticket is only $10 and tickets for either Saturday or Sunday are only $20. Children under 12 are free and there's no extra charge for a pit pass. If nothing else, that's as cheap as it gets for over two dozen dragsters and funny cars. If you ever wanted to take the family out for a cheap night at the races to see really fast cars, this is the event for you.

Seriously, this is one of the best deals in drag racing. It's a great show and, with the new weather forecast, ought to be worth a few dozen new NHRA National Records. From 4 PM until 10 PM on Saturday, it's pretty much all 200 mph action.

Grab a few friends and go.
