Racing car with full tank of gas??

Just wondering how many of you guys do this. ( From fear of uncovering the sending unit. ) Is this a must or can you get away with 3/4 or 1/2 a tank. A full tank of c-16 is BIG bucks. I've run a full tank in the past and would like to know what I can get away with. Thanks
