The alum spacer was what was found on the early 86's. My car had one (i know the cars history) it was built 10/85.

What's the purpose of the aluminum spacer?

The fan sits closer the I.c. to draw more air through the I.c. for a colder charge

Odd that they switched to the steel spacer for the majority of the 86/7 and then used them on the TTA.
