I would like to propose a cruise around the state capitol on Presidents day, February 21, 2005. (Time to be determined)

The purpose is to let our friends at the capitol know how large the Motorsports community is.
The reason is several fold:
1. we need a new motorsports complex and I will
be submitting a bill to facilitate this. The race track lease expires in april of 06.
2. Those who support or oppose recon can show their constituency and vehicles .
3. let the legislature know how diverse our public
is in type, style, vehicles, interests and professions we represent.

After several years of pushing, I believe the time is right for a FINAL PUSH for us. It has been far to long a wait and much more difficult than I ever imagined.

Those of you that are receiving this are participants, enthusiasts, supporters, in the automotive business, promoters, automotive marketing or involved in some way or another. I would like to have thousands of people driving there Bikes, street rods, cruise cars, family car, hot rod or trailoring their race cars around the capitol on that day.... very orderly, with dignity and respect. If you want to bring a car full of people who would enjoy walking around the capitol, that would be welcome also.

I am not locked into the 21st. It is a holiday and should be easier for most of you. It will also allow the press an opportunity to be there. If any of you have a better day or idea, I will be open and listen.... its about exposure.

Many Legislators think we are a small minority and don't vote.

without getting to windy.. I would like an expression of interest on going forward and letting all your friends know as well.. If you are, We can set up a coordinator and move forward. I look forward to hearing from you..

FAQ's:

Presidents' Day Motorsports and Car Enthusiast Cruise

When and where?
Presidents' Day, Monday, February 21, 2005, from 12 noon to 2pm or 3pm. Cruise past the State Capitol Building to represent the local motorsports and car enthusiast community. A map of a suggested route will be available later.

A few legislators and the local media will be there.

Who's invited?
Everyone who has anything to do with the local motorsports or car enthusiast scene. Participants, enthusiasts, supporters, people in the automotive business, promoters, automotive marketing -- anyone involved in one way or another.

We would like to have thousands of people there riding their bikes, driving their street rods, cruise cars, family cars or hot rods, or trailoring their race cars around the capitol that day, very orderly, with dignity and respect. We especially want the people who normally don't come out for an event like this to show their support -- older enthusiasts, busy professionals and families. If you want to bring a car full of people who would enjoy walking around the capitol, that would be welcome also.

What's this cruise for?
We need show our legislators how large and diverse the local motorsports and car enthusiast community really is. The people we voted into office are making decisions that are bad for our community because many of them consider us a small and insignificant part of the population.

It is important that we show them how large a community we represent. It is important they understand that local motorsports fans are responsible citizens who come in all ages, all professions and all walks of life. The strength of our numbers can be represented with a large turnout of cars cruising past the State Capitol Building. Our diverse interests can be represented with the various types and styles of vehicles we drive.

Politicians only want to please voters. It's how they keep their jobs. If they realize how many motorsports fans there are, they will realize that if they don't support us, they will lose A LOT of votes.

Why is this so important now?
We are at risk of losing our race track. The land that Hawaii Raceway Park sits on is owned by Campbell Estate, and the lease is up in 2006. The Estate wants the land back, and our State government has little to no interest in helping us build a new track or helping us keep the existing one. Think about that, folks. That would leave us WITHOUT A RACE TRACK, and our government DOESN'T CARE.

Looking beyond the immediate problem of losing our race track, demonstrating the size and diversity of our community has other benefits. We would stand a much better chance of changing unpopular laws like recon, for example. A long line of diverse rides crusing with dignity and respect will also help our image after a lot of bad publicity by a few bad apples in our bunch.

How will the cruise be organized?
We are not organizing one gigantic cruise. We are encouraging local car clubs, businesses, organizations, groups of friends and individual enthusiasts to take some time out of their Presidents' Day holiday to cruise past the State Capitol Building between 12 noon and 2pm that day.

We will make a map of a suggested cruise route and make it available sometime in the very near future.

Why pick a holiday when our legislators will not be there?
It is not necessary for our legislators to be there. What matters most is how many cars and people show up. The media will be there covering the event, so our legislators will see it when they watch the news that evening or read about it in the newspaper the next morning.

If we did this during a normal working day, we would create a huge traffic jam and the public would hate us. We need to do this with respect for the other drivers and not create a problem.

Subject: complex

Ladies and Gentlemen: It is time to start our engines. As many of you already know, Hawaii Raceway Park is about to close (April 06). www.hawaiiracewaypark.com

Also, I have been working on a new complex in the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station (now Kalaeloa) for the past 12 years which incorporates modern, up to date technologies and safety standards for all forms of motor Sports. The base closure allowed us to more than double the size of the existing faculty. This property is now pending the outcome of the Navy's carrier group study, but indications are favorable non the less. ( joint use is very possible at the least)

It is now time to press the issue with our legislators and Government offices so we may proceed with building the facility. Currently, there are three bills being introduced at this legislative session (05) to help move this project forward. Your support is necessary to indicate the broad based community support for this facility and these activities. From simple drag racing to high end sports car racing, from home auto enthusiast to weekly participants, without a proper, modern, safely designed facility, Racing will be on the streets of Oahu, instead of at "the track".

We need two things.

A "cruise" is being planned around the capitol for February 21st, Presidents day from noon till 2 or 3 pm around the state capitol and city hall. This cruise will be covered by OC 16 and Ohana road at a minimum and probably all the mainstream media. Please tell all your friends and plan on being there. You can check out the details by looking up "Forums Hawaii" and then going to the HRP section. ( http://forumshawaii.net/phpBB2/index.php )

The second thing is to submit written, oral or email testimony to the legislative committee's hearing the bills. This can be done by accessing the legislative site at www.capitol.hawaii.gov once there, you can track the bills status by do a bill search..click on that and then type in the bill numbers. So far two have been numbered, HB 994 and SB 1043. As soon as I get Representative kanoho's number, I will forward it. For submitting email testimony to the respect committee's hearing the bill all you need to do is email to testimony@capitol.hawaii.gov and specify the bill numbers and committee's hearing the bills and the date...

This is a case of the more the merrier. If your from out of state or are out of state, your support is just as critical, if not more so, indicating your interest in visiting such a complex for events as a visitor destination is important.

Please Kokua (help) by participating as much as you can.. and questions, please feel free to call me at 808 671-1706 or for the out of state, 877-553-7223 (RACE)
