new to TR's, best upgrades to reduce lag?

i want to know what order i should do things in for the best response. do 3" downpipes help? i have v8 cars and nobody knows at all the potential of an 86-87 car, so i am the only one with one around here (charlotte). the car is stock except for a crappy cross flow 3 chamber flowmaster and an old hypertech chip that seems to suck. thanks

Charlotte where? If that is NC, you've got good tuners in your back door. I agree with Dan, the 12 sec build-up on gn/t-type.org is a great place to start.

Get rid of the flowmaster (replace it with 2.5" dual with straight through mufflers), port the elbow, gut the cat and fix any header cracks or leaks and lag will be history (if you have the proper, stock D5 torque converter).
