What causes a brand new cam sensor to tick? I can hear it as plain as day with the stethoscope. Do you worry about it or do they always make that noise?

weak or broke chain tentioner will let the cam bounce back and forth which is what caused mine to do it.

tried 2 different sensors same problem...fixed the tentioner on my timing chain and it quit

but if I am not using a tensioner......double roller (not needed).
What else could cause this, fresh rebuild also.

no tentioner is kinda like a bad one ... chain slap

mine was worse when cold at idle

im intersted in seeing what others have found... i fixed my tentioner and mine has been quiet ever since.

Red, are you saying that if chain is slapping slightly it could cause the ticking? Maybe I need to add a tensioner.

if its double roller you'll have to live with it they are noisey no matter what you do

only real option is to got stock style chain with GM tentioner or let it tick

as the cam bounces back and forth the cam sensor gets kicked back and forth also but worse is it back and forth at the gear which is angled so it pushes the shaft if the cam sensor up and down.
if you shim the sensor with less play in it it may get quieter
