Need Help Identifying Suspect Vehicle **photos**

The following vehicle may have been involved in a crime. I'm no Ford guru but it appears to be a Mercury Marquis. If anyone can give an exact year that'd be great.

And for you digital photo experts; if you can enhance the picture to positively identify the license plate I'd be much appreciated!

No Mercury expert here...but...

Good "Photo Editor" software can most likely get the tag number distinct enough to read at least perhaps the prefix.

California plates? :confused:
 
Michigan plate. Those would be either 3 numbers followed by 3 letters or vice-versa.
 
MAYBE a little earlier.................

like an 83-85 Merc Marquis,,,,,,my folks had several.:eek:
 
without doing any enhancing...the last digit looks like a 4....after looking a little more...i think the last 3 digits are 314.....however...i am not totally certain, and i may have "convinced" myself of it....
 
GRAND Marquis...regular Marquis was smaller, available with a 2.3, 3.3 and 3.8 engines. Grand Marquis only had a 5.0 motor. Not that this helps the investigation. What sorta crime?
