mini starter

Hey Guys: Installed one of the mini starters in my 87 gn less than 5 years ago. Noticed lately that the car is cranking slower, does not sound the same. Checked battery(megatron), and have 13 volts . i drive the car less than 700 miles a year, seems early to have the starter die. Has anyone had any experience with these small starters? Is my battery voltage OK?

Check your pos wire going to the starter.

The question is which mini starter. If it's a gear reduction type then I'd say loss of electrical current. If it's one of the PMG (super small body) type then it's most likely messed up.

Thanks for the info, I will take alook at the pos cable. This is not a gear reduction starter, just a small version, about 10 # less weight.

Pull the starter off and have it checked. Those PMG units seem to have some issues with one of the internal gears.

Several vendors have them or you can look on evilbay. I got mine fairly cheaply and it's the gear reduction type instead of the PMG type.
