MAP sensor, do i need it?

I'm converting my 84/85 ignition over to a 86/87. Do I need the map sensor, what is the purpose of the MAP sensor? Thanks.

The MAP sensor controls the idiot stock boost gauge in the dash. You are probably refering the the MAT sensor. Either add the sensor( Caspers has the conversion kit) or have TT program it out on your chip. Good luck. Brad
