Is it ok to have too much fluid??

I checked it today and it was a good bit above the full mark before I even cranked the car. Is it bad for the trans to have to much fluid? Sorry, I havent had the car long and this was obviously done by the first owner.

Checking Trannie Oil

To properly check trannie oil, start car and move the shift lever into each range for a couple of seconds, place it in park with the engine left running, then check the oil level.

A little high is OK (1/4 to 1/2 inch) but one inch over you should lossen a fitting somewhere in the trannie piping system and let a little drain out.
