I got a MAP sensor, why?

On my pass. side relay group, there is a MAP sensor with a 3 wire weatherpack connector and a vacuum line. It is very stock looking . I disconnected it electrically and nothing happened ti dricvability and no SES. There was a cherry bone stock 87 GN at cruise in this weekend and it had same thing. My car has never had direct scan. The wires go back deeply into the firewall to the left of the heater/ac box. Any ideas?

That is what operates your stock boost gauge in the cluster. It has no effect on the operation of the ecm
