Hinge mounts

What is the hardened paste that's across the upper hinge plate on both sides? I don't see this on the lower hinges, and you can see more of it behind the upper rear tip of the fenders. It looks like it's white under the black paint. Anyone who has similar pics, please post 'em. Thanks a ton!

It's just a Seam Sealer or Body Caulk.

The Service Manual says when replacing the upper hinge to seal the top side like that to prevent water from seeping into the body from where the Hinge meets the pillar.
