I have been using them on every car I've owned over the last ten years,

Just the feds arresting me for odometer fraud, I'll be out in a few months.....................
Seriously, the only practical use I know for them is in either rental or lease vehicles with a mileage limit. Considering the legality of it, I wouldn't recomend it as the benefits are far outweighed by the penaltys that could be imposed.
