GNX fetches $77,000
While waiting for results from Russo and Steele’s muscle-bound sale in Monterey, we headed over to RM’s site looking for an American performance car to report on.
Maybe your Muscle Car correspondent is a little sensitive about people putting down 1980s and 1990s cars these days as a way of justifying the government’s automotive destruction spree, “Cash for Clunkers,” as it’s popularly known. But as a teenager in the 1980s, I can attest that there were desirable muscle cars being produced that will surely appreciate in value. And the big Kahuna, though admittedly tame by today’s standards, was the 1987 Buick GNX.
This GNX, sold at RM last week, has just 56 original miles showing on the odometer and has been in the same family since new. It even had the original window sticker, affixed to the driver’s side window. Selling price? A cool $77,000.
