FYI - Timing Sprocket

For anyone who is new to hot airs, when you start your performance upgrades, consider starting with looking at your timing sprocket. Attached should be a picture of what was left to mine after 111k. I got very lucky, I'm suprised the car ran. I was down to four teeth left on the sprocket:eek:

I've worked on a lot of engines where the chain/sprocket was replaced and the pan not cleaned out:eek:. I'm moving this to the engine tech section.
 
That is REAL common on all Turbo Buick's. The first time I pulled mine apart (back when Moses was a child), it had 32K miles on it and had 5 broken teeth and cracks everywhere. I HAVE pulled high milage ones apart and they were in good shape, though. Go figure.:confused:

I remember the early 70's 307's had those also, remember emptying the pan and cleaning the pickup of those pieces of plastic....
