Guys, you are correct about the 51060R racing filter is for "Racing applications only". It is a higher flow filter which reduces restriction in order to free up horsepower by taking strain off the oil pump. This is the same media that we use for most of our NASCAR teams (Steward-Hass, Hendricks, RCR, Petty, etc.) Don specifically designed this kit to utilize the more common "sbc/bbc chevy" size filter so you would have many more options compared to other turbo saver kits. 51060 is less expensive and way more common than the 51049 filter other turbo saver kits use.
Wix makes 12 filter options that will work on Don's filter adaptor. (see why he went with this size?)
Here they are...
51060- Premium street filter (with anti-drain back valve. Can be mounted in any position)
51060XP- Synthetic media street version of 51060. (designed for synthetic oils, can be used with conventional)
51060R- Racing applications. High flow media for track cars.
51061- Premium street filter. (NO anti- drain back valve, must me mounted vertically only) most economically priced.
51061XP- same as 51061 but with synthetic media
51061R- Same as 51060R but without anti-drain back valve (vertical mount only)
51086- Short version of 51060 (has anti-drain back valve)
51069- Short version of 51061 (no anti drain back valve)
51069R- Short racing version of 51061.
51620- High performance/high pressure version of 51060. Micron rating in between 51060 and 51060R
51794- Longer 2 quart version of 51061
51794R- Long 2 quart Racing version of 51061.
Use whatever filter best suites your application and mounting position. I see no need for the 2 quart version in these Buicks, but use whatever one makes you feel best. I run the XP with synthetic racing oil in my personal car.
51060R is a race filter that should be used for track cars that gets changed every race
, it flows 3 times as much as a standard 51049 (which flows plenty ) but it also allows particles three times larger to pass ,
the pte used the 50149 which is a 20micron filter ( .000787") , the 51060R is a 60micron filter ( .00236").
the race filter really has no place on a street driven buick and wont do much to protect a turbo or bearings
