Here's what I thought would be a simple question... What is the amp rating of the stock alternator for an 87 GN? I went to checkers and they wanted $179 for a reman alt. and I about went into shock. Napa has about 10 different alternators listed for the 3.8 vin 7 from 60 to 120 amps. Anyone know what the stock one is? Damn, Summit has colored alternators (80 amp) for only $99 with no core...

Thanks,
Derrick

hmm, why does 120 amps stick in my head. :)

Like you I went kinda into mild shock at hearing $159 for the alt and also saw that napa lists a slew of them all over the amp spectrum.

Pro Start at Pep Boys makes a nice NEW USA made alternator for about $145. You have to swap the alternator pulley on it however. It comes with the wrong one even though it says it fits a GN.

Mines worked well for over 2 years now.

They have rebuilts too in the ProStart line. Don't know anything about them however.

120 Amperes is correct.

I know I read somewhere that it is 130amps.
80 amps will not even come close to being enough. These take a lot of juice so get the 120 at least

these are 120A alt's you can even read the #'s on the front and the last few are 120A
