85 t type Detent cable HELP PLEASE!

Ok, so I am trying to get this thing up and running. One of my last things to do was put in the detent cable. So l got the one from the garage only to figure out it was wrong. So I asked around, found one. Got it sent to me. Well I can't get it connected, seems way short. So I call the parts houses, they tell me 37 inches? YeAH, got it. But I cannot figure a way to route it to fit. I have it secured in to the trans, up and over the bell housing,comes up right to the throttle bracket, but that's it. It won't even come close to coming around the bracket to plug into it and connect.

Any ideas on where to start?
Maybe the length is to short? Seems like another 8 or 10 inches would do wonders.
Maybe a part number? I keep coming up with a CA-1935 but it is not right.
