3800 Series 2/L36 help please...

I recently bought a 99 Camaro with a 3.8 series 2 in it. Car had a blown intake gasket and leaked coolant into the oil. After fixing the intake gasket the bottom end started to get a light knock and lost some oil pressure. All the local shops ive called told me it would be pointless to replace the rod/mains without going all the way through the motor and putting new cam bearing in it. Is this true? I really know jack about these motors but with the price of parts for them id rather buy a nice used motor and just swap instead of rebuilding this one at the moment. Any info from guys that have worked with these motors would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks
