I partially tore down my engine this weekend to change the oil pump, water pump, timing gear and gaskets. Before I got too far I checked compression, just so I could go ahead and do the head gaskets or a rebuild if needed while I'm there. One a supposed 180k mile engine, each cylinder was 155-165psi. On one hand, I'm glad the motor is in good shape, but on the other, I really hate not knowing what's been done inside. Isn't 155-165 a little high, even for a rebuild? I'm hoping somebody didn't rebuild the thing with a higher compression ratio than normal? Would that even be check-able with a compression test like this?
