Lost compression at drag strip

I remove the mounts from the block, line the motor up and bolt it to the trans then put the mounts back on the motor. :)

While the engine and trans were out I hope you bent that stupid body seam down.

Just ground a notch in it for a HUGE downpipe but the rest is still there,, yeah, mounts are off the block but no luck in 2 tries to bolt the motor to the trans!! Grrrrrrrr

Chuck is it any easier to remove the trans & set the engine on the mounts & then put the trans back up to it?

When I pull an engine, the trans comes w/ it. I find it much easier to mate them up, and install as a unit.
If you already have the engine out, The trans is only a few minutes to get out.

We have had luck with bolting in the engine and then mating the tranny up to it as if you were just putting in a new tranny. We've done that several time. We have had the luxury of a lift though.

Yep motor is out & trying to put back in, thanks for the advice chuck & pronto, ill keep yall updated as i struggle haha, thanks again!!

I don't know how high up you have the car, but I built a basic 2x4 frame that looked like an I to put underneath the trans. It keeps everything level. First time I had the trans out, I pulled it on my back with no jack. Never again.

X2 on the 2x4 frame, as I did the same when I replaced the tranny. There was no one else for the extra hands so I slide the tranny underneath the car and then place the 2x4 wood frame on top of the hydraulic floor jack.
I struggle to place the tranny on top of the 2x4 frame and then jack the tranny up to meet the engine housing dowel pins. There was at one point I had to use another floor jack to support the front of the tranny while the other floor jack supported the rear of the tranny.
This gave me the option to move the front or rear transmission up or down individually.

ok thanks guys, unfortunately im parked on gravel so im rolling stuff around with plywood layed down. ' sigh '.. It sucks to hi heaven but ill will win LOL!!!!

I'm just wondering how is your car lifted and being supported when it you're parked in gravel?
The next time I have to do another transmission work, I'll use this lift stand which looks good and also will give more height then the car ramps and jack stands

I looked into those. About $650 for a set of 4. I like the concept, not the price.

A pair of bolts w/ the heads cut off are good "guide pins", and easier to engage than the block dowel pins.
In any case, DO NOT use the trans bolts to pull the trans up to the block.

No shit ! Good advice, we have to remember that many members out there have limited mechanical experience, but the Buick GB trans is a piece of cake, lots of room compared my past life of other cars, a trans jack definitely improves your outlook on life, removing the cross member and driveshaft is imperitive !!!

the car isnt lifted its just sitting there like normal however i got the motor mounted to the trans & mounts 2day, ' what a bitch ' but anyways the hard part is overrrrrr!!

Good to hear that you got it in. Working on the ground is no fun for sure.

Deffinately makes it harder but im used to it so its the norm for me.. now have to attack the rest of this job to get it running again!

There is a stack order involved. Going by memory it seems that one you put the plate on the head, the tentioner has to go on before the alternator because the ALT covers up a tentioner ear.

Seems like the PS pump can go on anytime.
