I have a better answer for you I think:

Say you're itty bitty 231ci engine has a compression ratio of 8:1

For every 2psi boost is 1 point of compression

At 16psi boost that's 8 points of compression. You just doubled your engines effective compression ratio.

Actually, a turbo doesn't do anything EXACTLY, but it does several different things APPROXIMATELY.
