TTA heads lifting?

i know this has been discussed before but im farely new to these cars (tta). Im wondering why the tta head lifts at a much lower power level than the GN head? Also is there any remedy ie head studs, cometecs??? Im eventually gonna build my tta for mid 10sec power on e85 so im curious. Thanks in advance

Yes they do flex.... If your car is capable off 129-130 mph in 1/4 your at your limit.
Use stock style hg's...think its #9441 and ARP bolts. I'd shoot for high tens and leave it alone.

What’s your set up? Idk too much about the (TTA) but I do know some guys have swapped to GN heads but there is also some work to be done to make them work! But as JP 112_89 said! It’d be easiest to back out your goal to high 10s! A 10 second street car is still fast!

Slap some head studs on and make sure your head and block are nice and flat . Also if you are concerned about heads lifting then go with some RJC Head gaskets . They also make clamps that will clamp your head down . Truthfully you don’t need to be worried about that till you are making over 500+rwhp+

It might end up being pretty quick. Its got a nice 212/212 roller and a 6266. Havent chosen a converter for it yet although I do have a 911 lockup for it if I choose that route. I plan on going through the motor soon because it smokes through the breathers. I plan on porting the heads.

Definitely get the heads ported but becareful and don't go crazy.. Some people I know hit the water jacket... anyways, nice cam but 6266 is gonna spool slower with with a 9/11 especially if it's a journal bearing turbo and or stock headed.

I would send that converter to PTC and let them guys set it up for you...

A high percentage of us TTA owners do not need the 66 turbine wheel. Smaller 62 will spool faster and make great power. Use if you got it though that's a nice Turbo. You're just going to need more converter.

62 turbo, ported heads, smaller cam and good converter (like you have), turn it up and let the boost do its thing.

Thank you for the advice. It so happens that my brother has a 6262 that im sure he would trade me for. I am definitely open to sending the 911 off to PTC or even getting a PTC non lu for it. Thanks again

Luke,
What's the stall speed of your 9/11? I have one I bought but haven't installed yet and I figure it's probably too loose for my 44. Might be able to swap converters...

I was told 3000-3200. I'd install and verify before I traded you.

I had it rebuilt and stalled to 3200. Not sure if I will ever run it. It's just sitting in a box and I'm really liking the ptc in my t-type. Might put a ptc in the tta as well

No, it is not ..it will probably be right on. Probably stalls 24-2600 @ 1# boost...not 3000-3200... guarantee it.
Put it in.

Once mine is running again I'm looking to defy these TTA wall limits. My new motor is fully built, 0.040 over, Comp 220/220 roller, Ross pistons, K1 rods, Eagle crank, billet mains, all ARP hardware, Champion ported big valve TTA iron heads, Pro Series ARP head bokts, Harland Sharpe roller rockers, Cometic head gaskets, billet PT7168HPQ turbo, FAST Xfi, dual nozzle Alky, 120# injectors, A1000 external pump, TH400 with PTC 3600 converter, etc. Our goal is in the 9's in the 26 psi range...hopefully we will find out this summer.

Nice set up!!!

Sir,
Contact Fastair6 here on this site he can answer all of your questions on lifting heads on a TTA. He might even have some ported heads and studs left over from his previous builds.
Thanks,
Bob

TTA heads are not the way to go for a low 10 sec car. My car was very light and 60' in the 1.4 and at 23psi lifted both heads. Went with TA Eliminator race heads and at 17-18psi the car was just as fast. Ran a few 22-23psi all out runs on the street with no problems. GN head design is better and the TA head is a beast.

Scott,
I wish you luck... I couldn't get it done and I tried about everything.

Did you have to modify the car any to put the TA heads on?! That’s what he’s looking to know!

Yes.

So you did actually go through with it and sold it. Damn, that was one of the nicest TTA's I've ever seen.

BTW, what's with this infamous TTA wall I keep reading about, is it really that tough seeing 9's in a TTA...?

It's all about the boost/cylinder pressure on a built motor and the TTA heads. A stock motor with bolt-on upgrades you can run the boost up pretty high with a good tune and good ARP head bolts (I ran the Pro Series)...I ran 26psi on 93 and Alky for about 8 years without any issues. But with a built motor and big turbo the cylinder pressure goes up quite a bit and the TTA heads don't like much over 24psi...probably 26psi is about the max above that the heads start to lift. Several have made it to the 600-650whp but always come up a little short of a 9 sec pass...10.1's seem to be about the wall. TTAFAN ran ~10.15 @ 134 with a 1.56 60' 25ish psi and a conservative tune...he was very close but hasn't really pushed it either. Billy Anderson built his engine 10+ years ago and it made 630ish to the wheels, he also built mine basically 10 years later with some better parts, bigger cam, bigger more efficient turbo, a little more cubic in...Billy says it will make more power and be faster. We will see LOL
