Trunk trouble

I need new lift struts for the trunk on my 87. The problem is there are no parts listed for this application. The closest I could find was for a 82 regal so I bought them. They fit but don’t have the range of motion as the originals so my trunk only opens about 3/4 if the way. Anyone have the proper part numbers of maybe something that works from another car?

Im guessing you mean hood struts and if so I was able to source them from autozone, but I have the original part number at home if someone else doesn't chime in with it.

Didn't originally have trunk struts...used two torsion rods under the rear tray. Either someone has modded yours with some other application, or the rods have been removed to put in speakers or sub box maybe?

No evidence of a sub box or any kind of system that I can see. This is my second GN that had trunk lift struts. The other cars were fine so replacement was not needed. If this is someone’s handiwork it’s pretty extensive. The whole hinge assembly is setup for the struts. Absolutely no provision for the torsion rods. Is it possible this car was built in a factory that was using those parts?

It was probably factory parts from an older Regal I think the 81-83 or so had struts.

Never in 1987.

Does it have a good VIN tag, or cowl tag under the wiper area, RPO codes in trunk?

Lots of east\y ways to check it out for year of manuf. to start.

No RPO sticker. The trunk lid has been changed. The vin is correct. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t tagged

Can you post a picture of the trunk hinge and strut assembly? Sounds interesting.

Looks to me those are not factory. The bracket is where the tension rod hooks into.
