Trans Scatter Shield

I have been thinking about safety here lately.... This was a recent project and there was a lot of fabrication involved to make this scatter shield fit the 200. Probably overkill but all in all I'm impressed with the outcome. Besides cutting off the bellhousing, I'm not sure what else one could do. I've never seen a 200 explode but can't say I want to find out:)

That looks great!
Back in the early ‘80’s we tractor pulled in the mini-rod class. It was whatever you could fit in a 6ft wide, 6ft long (centerline of the rear axle forward) weighing less than 1550lbs. 1750lbs for the heavy class.
The extra 50lbs was for safety stuff (engine shields, trans blanket and U-joint guard.
Most of us sat in the seat and rested our feet on the back of the heads with our heels on the bell housing.
One of the guys ran the heavy class only with a 427 big block in front of a TH350.
His trans exploded with such force it broke both his heels through the trans blanket.
Thank goodness for the blanket.

Here are a couple of shots of the brackets I had to make / modify. The deep pan made things a little tricky with spacing and fitment.

The 200s dont explode like a 350 or 400 does.
They break differently 😉
But nice work!

Agreed. I plan to start running the car harder and should probably get away from the 200 but I like my overdrive and original trans. I've been lucky over the years with the 200. Everything has its limits though:)

That is some nice detailed work. How did it fit in the car? Is that a Tom Walters shield??

That is an awesome looking piece. Glad you think. Safety for not only yourself but your fellow racers. It looks like you put a lot of time into that. How was the clearance on the floor board. Maybe you can fabricate more?

Appreciate it. I bought the shield from Murph McKinney who purchased Tom Waters Racing. Not sure how it fits the floor as I haven't installed the trans just yet. All my preliminary measurements indicate I won't have an issue there. The shield is roughly 1/4" from the top off the case of the transmission. I was most concerned about the right side since I had to make some spacers for the brackets. When I install the trans I'll get some more pictures to share. Might have to trim the factory heat shield on the right floor board. More to come there....

Toms stuff was the best for fit in our race car. Glad someone purchased hos stuff. Good luck and keep us in the loop
