I bought my front mount used and has a bypass valve in up pipe that uses 2" or so square mount. Easy spot to put air temp sensor is on mount but it would be parallel to air stream and actual sensor about 1/2" away. Seems like it would be OK, but a little backup opion couldn't hurt.

Are you using alky? If so I believe the air temp should be after the alcohol mixes?
In the Intake .

Sensor in the up-pipe will work fine. But its hard to say how your setup will affect response time. I would try it and do a log.

Where's the best place, assuming no alky. I was looking at up pipe for convenience and maybe alky someday, but I'm open.

I prefer it in the up-pipe if possible. Before any alky nozzle. If no alky, then plenum is ok. In any case, you can make the tune work.
